For safety reasons, pets must remain in their carrier the whole time and the carrier must fit under the seat. There is not enough space to safely allow medium and large pets onboard. Safety of our riders and their animals is our top priority. 

We allow service animals onboard who have been trained to perform a specific task for a person with a disability. Emotional support animals are not considered service animals, but small dogs and cats may be booked through the pet program.

The pet reservation limit is one per passenger - so if you are traveling with someone on the same reservation (two passengers total), you'd be able to book two pets (as long as there are reservations available) and bring both of your small pets along.

Sorry, at this time, only small dogs and cats are included in the pet program.

In coach cars, passengers with allergies have the opportunity to sit elsewhere should they be troubled being in the same car with pets. Unfortunately, since Business Class seating is very limited, that same flexibility does not exist. Please note that pets are also not allowed in the Café Car.

If you experience this upon boarding, please speak to the conductor for assistance. 

Traveling and new environments in general can be stressful for animals. So for the safety of our crews, passengers, and pets, animals must be kept in a closed carrier while on the train. For your pet's comfort and safety, it must be able to sit, lie down, and remain entirely inside without touching the sides of the carrier.

The maximum size for pet carriers is 19" long x 14" wide x 10.5" high. It may be hard or soft sided but must be leak proof and well ventilated.

The stops at each station are brief (around 60-90 seconds). There is usually a layover period when passing through Los Angeles for longer trip. Otherwise, most trips are short enough to where your pet can have a bathroom break before and after boarding. Ultimately, it is up to the passenger to determine how best to crate/toilet their animal.

There is a limit of five pet reservations per train, and the pets must remain in a carrier while on the train. There will be plenty of space onboard to sit at a distance. Please keep in mind that passengers may be exposed to pet dander because allergens can be carried into the train on the clothes of other passengers.  If a reaction should occur while onboard, passengers should follow their doctor’s treatment instructions and ask a crew member for assistance in finding suitable seating in another area of the train, if needed. Also, the Business Class Car and Café Car (coach) are closed to pets, so that's another option for passengers with allergies.

As an unreserved service, we are unable to restrict unreserved coach riders to a specific car, even if they have made a pet reservation.
